
Stay Alive Arizona, formerly Stay Aive @ 25, a community-based coalition established in Scottsdale, Arizona in 2005, is dedicated to the safety of teen drivers. The programs offered provide prevention education for new drivers, especially in the area of fatal collision. Coalition members strongly believe that by providing lifesaving information to students, it will have a direct and positive effect on the decision-making of our young drivers in the community.
March 2004 ~ First annual Stay Alive @ 25 Teen Leadership Retreat. This two-day driving safety and personal responsibility program exposed students to the dangers they face behind the wheel. Community programs came together to provide students with a variety of workshops to attend and personal testimonials of family members who have lost a loved one to a fatal collision.
March 2005 ~ Second annual Stay Alive @ 25 Teen Leadership Retreat. This three-day driving safety and personal responsibility program included a new component; the development of student led initiatives. Students attended workshops and then worked together to develop campaign activities to host once they returned to school. Students produced safety commercials (PSA’s) to air on their school television network; students painted hall-size safety banners and made safety bracelets for the whole student body.
September 2005 ~ The Joann Realmonte family forms a non-profit coalition. The first closed-circuit Live Broadcast Mini Series is hosted at Saguaro High School in Scottsdale Unified School District. The program is a student-run production that is televised in every classroom, simultaneously. The program engages students and teachers in a 5-month series that takes an in-depth look at fatal collisions and near fatal collisions.
January 2006 ~ The second closed-circuit Live Broadcast Mini Series is hosted at Chaparral High School in Scottsdale Unified School District. The program is a student-run production that is televised in every classroom, simultaneously. The program engages students and teachers in a 5-month series that takes an in-depth look at fatal collisions and near fatal collisions.
March 2006 ~ The third annual Stay Alive @ 25 Teen Leadership Retreat is held at Saguaro Ranch. This three-day driving safety and personal responsibility program included a new component; a Live Extrication Demonstration provided by Scottsdale Fire Department, Scottsdale Police, Scottsdale Healthcare and Native Emergency Rescue. Students got a close up look at a mock DUI fatal crash and learned what happens at the scene of a fatality. Student Initiatives included student produced PSA’s, safety banners and key chains for the whole student body.
September 2006 ~ Stay Alive @ 25 teams up with SADD to host a three-day Middle School Leadership Retreat for Desert Canyon Middle School in Scottsdale Unified School District. Students attended workshops and learned about the dangers of destructive behaviors. Students formed a SADD Chapter and developed initiatives to implement upon returning to their school. This chapter is currently active.

April 2007 ~ Live for the Future, a live extrication demonstration provided by Scottsdale Fire Department, Scottsdale Police Department, Scottsdale Healthcare, Native Emergency Rescue, PMT, Western Towing and Green Acres Mortuary at Horizon High School in Paradise Valley Unified School District.

November 2007 ~ Stay Alive Arizona forms the first student chapter at Chaparral High School. Students develop Constitution and Bylaws for the SA-AZ Chapter, host elections and begin planning student driven campaigns.
January 2008 ~ Chaparral Chapter SA-AZ attends the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Event at the State Capitol. This event is hosted by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Advisory Council and students host a booth with information regarding Stay Alive Arizona programs.
February 2008 ~ Northpoint Expeditionary Learning Academy in Prescott Unified School District hosts the Stay Alive Arizona Mini Series. This special event is designed for sophomores only and is a live interaction over the course of two weeks.

March 2008 ~ Annual Stay Alive Arizona Retreat in Prescott. This weekend retreat is a joint effort of Arizona SADD and Stay Alive Arizona. During this 3-day leadership summit, students embark on a Life Ride Curriculum presented by Eddie Slowikowski.
April 2008 ~ Stay Alive AZ students present a live television show at Chaparral High School...Seat Belts Save Lives with guest speaker Sergeant Jim Dear of the Scottsdale Police Department. This broadcast stressed the importance of seat belt use and encouraged students to always be safe while driving. The live broadcast was a collaborative effort of students- both behind the cameras and in the studio audience.
April 2008 ~ Stay Alive AZ students travel to Prescott to attend the annual Teen Maze presented by the North Star Coalition. SA-AZ students participated in the giant maze to learn more about the dangers of drugs, alcohol and driving.
May 2008 ~ Stay Alive AZ students travel to Horizon High School in Paradise Valley Unified School District to present Horizon S.A.F.E., Horizon Stay Alive Freshman Experience. SA-AZ students host a workshop day for 600 freshmen at Horizon together with 10 guest speakers presenting topics on student seatbelt safety and what it means to be a proactive passenger.
May 2008 ~ Stay Alive Arizona student, Ava Moore, speaks at a Press Conference at the Governor’s Office. She is invited to speak on behalf of teens statewide for the Click It or Ticket Program.
